Witch Halloween Costume

When she was 5, little Miss S wanted to be a spooky witch for Halloween. She said “spooky” with such cuteness, I couldn’t stop smiling! So there she was, already giving me ideas and contributing in my designing adventure. And then began the search for that perfect fabric and craft supplies.
I found a very delicate and shimmery fabric with spider web design in her favorite color, purple. And that’s when she exclaimed, ” I could be a spider witch mumma!”
The dress is a simple A-line frock with shoulder ties. Easy to put on and light weight too. But what’s a witch without her cape, hat and broom?
For the cape I chose a sheer polka dot fabric. It’s a simple 3/4 circle cut, hemmed and a ribbon sewn for the neck tie. The gorgeous feather boa made for the perfect trim. My little girl still uses this cape for playing dress-ups.
I made the hat with a stiff felt fabric bought by the yard. Some sewing and hot glue later, it was done! Check out the tulle pompom accents on this pretty witch hat.
Next, the broom. A stick from the craft store, wrapped with ribbon and a bunch of tulle fabric tied at the end was all that was required and my little witch couldn’t contain her happiness.
For added accents, I designed a spider brooch for the waist of the dress and a spider finger ring.
Miss S had a blast trick or treating with her friends that evening. A cheery little girl with her bag full of candies, she swayed and twirled the evening away. As for me, like I always say, she is my super model and I am her quintessential designer. Her smiles are my rewards.
